GOSPEL NUGGET # 60

Mk 1:30 ...Simon's wife's mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once.

Mk 1:31 So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

This is a beautiful picture of spiritual salvation. She was lying there, weak and helpless, the Lord Jesus took her by the hand and immediately she got well and she served them. Her loving service followed her healing. It was not the cause of her healing. It was the consequence.

We do not serve in order to be spiritually healed. No, we must be spiritually healed first, then and only then, can we serve. A genuine Christian does not serve in order to be saved. Rather, he serves because he has been saved. Saved to serve, not serve to be saved.

We are sinners, spiritually sick and helpless. But the moment we put our trust in the Savior, immediately we are spiritually healed and raised. And as a loving response for what He did, we serve Him and the brethren.
