GOSPEL NUGGET # 96

Ge 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

Ge 3:21 Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.

Fallen man needs a covering. He is spiritually naked and he has nothing on except sin, guilt and shame. The covering he made for himself will not do. His best efforts can only produce "leaves" that will dry up and wither.

It is God alone who can take away his sin and guilt and cover his shame. And it can only come through the shedding of the blood of an innocent sacrifice. In covering them with tunics of skin, an animal had to die for them.

The sacrifice of the innocent animal was of course a picture of the Lamb of God (Jesus Christ) who shed His blood on the cross of Calvary.
