GOSPEL NUGGET # 101

Joh 8:56 "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My (Jesus') day, and he saw it and was glad."

Heb. 11:26 (Moses) esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

2Ti 3:15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures (Old Testament), which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

How were sinners in the Old Testament saved?

They were saved in the same way people in the New Testament are saved---faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. For example, Abraham and Moses were illumined by God about the coming Christ. As a result, Abraham rejoiced and Moses forsook the earthly privileges he could have enjoyed in Egypt.

The Old Testament Scriptures are enough to teach a sinner about Christ, enabling him to have wisdom as to how a sinner can be saved---and it is by faith in Christ.

They all looked forward in faith to the coming Christ. And they were saved on credit as it were. God saved them on the sure guarantee that Christ would come and pay for all their sins.

Old Testament sinners were saved by faith looking forward to Calvary. While New Testament sinners are saved by faith looking back to Calvary.
