GOSPEL NUGGET #191

Joh 3:7 ...'You must be born again.'

The New Birth: a) Its Meaning b) Its Necessity and c) Its Comprehensiveness

I. Its Meaning (What does it mean?)

Joh 3:7 ...'You must be BORN AGAIN'

It is God's gracious act whereby He imparts new life to a trusting sinner. It is not a religious organization, it is a spiritual event. One can join the born again movement or organization without being born again spiritually.

II. Its Necessity (Is it optional?)

Joh 3:7 ...'You MUST be born again.'

Just as drinking water and eating food is a must for man's survival, so is being born again a must if one is to enter the kingdom of God.

III. Its Comprehensiveness (Who must be born again?)

Joh 3:7 ..."YOU must be born again."

The pronoun "you" is actually plural in the Greek. The Lord Jesus was telling Nicodemus that he and his religious buddies (the Pharisees) must be born anew.

Now, if highly religious people must be born again, then that means everybody must be born again too. The argument is from the greater to the lesser. If people high up there in the religious ladder must be born again to enter the kingdom of God, then everyone down there must be born again too.

Question: How can you be born again?

Joh 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes/trusts in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
