GOSPEL NUGGET #495

The Sin Of Representing God Through An Image

Isa 46:5 "To whom will you liken Me, and make Me equal And compare Me, that we should be alike?
6 They lavish gold out of the bag, And weigh silver on the scales; They hire a goldsmith, and he makes it a god; They prostrate themselves, yes, they worship.
7 They bear it on the shoulder, they carry it And set it in its place, and it stands; From its place it shall not move. Though one cries out to it, yet it cannot answer Nor save him out of his trouble.
8 "Remember this, and show yourselves men; Recall to mind, O you transgressors.

No man-made image of God can be made to represent God in His Godhood. Any image made by man to represent God in His Godhood will only turn out to be a caricature, and, therefore, an insult to Him. God, who is infinitely great, cannot be placed in a box, so to speak, which an image, in effect, practically does.

For one, how could we ever portray the infinite with the finite? Impossible. It's absurd, it diminishes Him, it limits Him and it is making Him small. And so, even if you don't worship the so-called image of God, by that very fact, by that very image, you are sinning against Him.

My friend, if you are guilty of this, repent, turn to Christ, trust in what He did on the cross and be forgiven.
