GOSPEL NUGGET #7

Ro 6:23 ...the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The word "gift" here in the Greek means a FREE gift. All gifts are free. Paul wanting to emphasize the gratuitous nature of salvation had to say: "This is a gift. This is free."

There are many impossible things in the world; one of them is the earning of a free gift. It is absolutely impossible to earn what is freely given. And yet millions today are attempting the impossible. They want to work for salvation. They want to earn a ticket to heaven.

The "earning" of a "free gift" is a contradiction in terms. If it is earned, then it is not free. If it is a free gift, then it is something that must be freely received. Because freely given things are freely received, not labored for and earned.
