GOSPEL NUGGET # 63

Ge 28: 12 Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.

Notice Jacob's dream: "...behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven..."

Who is this Ladder that connects earth to heaven?

Joh 1:51 And He said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

The ladder in Gen. 28:12 is the Son of Man in John 1:51. It is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ! This is talking of the Second Coming of course, when He will come with His mighty angels here on earth. In His 1000-year reign here on earth, redeemed people will visibly see angels ascending and descending back to earth at Christ's beck and call.

But it can also be appropriately applied to His death on the cross. When He hung on the cross, elevated between heaven and earth, God, as it were, set up a Ladder for sinners to come to God.

Men have attempted to set up their own ladders that they believe could take them to heaven---we have the ladder of religion, morality and other works of merit to name a few. But there is only one Ladder between earth to heaven for sinners: Jesus Christ.
