GOSPEL NUGGET # 46
Ro 11:22 ...consider the goodness and severity of God...
Though this verse primarily refers to Israel as a nation and the Gentiles collectively as a whole, its principle can be applied to the cross of Christ.
Consider the goodness of God:
God's goodness is an expression of His love. In His love, He sent His Son to die for all sinners. The judgment that should have been for us fell on Him. He had no obligation to save sinners and yet He did it. It made all the angels in heaven gasp in awe and adoration.
But consider also the severity of God:
Sin must be punished. And if it takes God's one and only Son to do it, so be it! If God did not spare His one and only Son to die such a horrible death on the cross, what makes you think He will spare you...if you are unrepentant? Are you greater than God's holy and sinless Son?
