GOSPEL NUGGET # 105
Ro 7:24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
Paul describes himself as a "wretched" man. The only thing that is good in a saved sinner is the grace of God. Viewed apart from the grace of God, we are wretched. We are powerless against sin in our lives.
Paul realized that deliverance from sin's power could only come from a person. Notice his question: "WHO will deliver me from this body of death?"
NOT WHAT BUT WHO
He asked the right question. Not programs and procedures but a person (Christ Jesus) can deliver us from sin's power.
NOT WHERE BUT WHO
Many people believe that if only they could get away from the depressing and distressing and irritating situation they are in (in school, in the family, at work, in the office etc.) then they could somehow experience a victorious life over sin. They are yearning for a change of location and situation. For them the question is: "Wretched man that I am! WHERE, WHERE can I find deliverance?"
And so that's why many people decided to live in monasteries. For them deliverance from sin's power is found someWHERE not in someONE (Jesus)."
What you need is not a SYSTEM, nor a new SITUATION and SCENERY but the SAVIOR!
Ro 7:25 I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Come to Christ in faith and He will deliver you from sin's power.
