GOSPEL NUGGET #216

Zec 13:1 In that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness.

A day will come when Israel as a nation will finally turn to the Lord Jesus whom they rejected when He first came. And on that day, He will be a fountain that brings cleansing for sin and uncleanness.

He is beautifully symbolized here as a "fountain."

* It speaks of source. He will be the source of cleansing for sin and uncleanness.

"...and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." 1Jo 1:7

* It speaks of an inexhaustible source.

Fountains are not reservoirs that need to be replenished every now and then. No, they remain as full as ever all the time. It may flow for years and years but its fullness is never diminished. It's a fountain!

* It speaks of an available and accessible source.

Notice, it is described as a fountain "opened." It is not hidden and closed. In other words, it is accessible and available.

The idea of a sin-cleansing fountain has been made famous by one of our most well-known hymns of all time by William Cowper:

“There is a fountain filled with blood
Drawn from Emanuel’s veins,
And sinners plunged beneath that flood
Lose all their guilty stains.”

Come to the Fountain of cleansing! Come to Christ in faith!
